Pierpaolo Pontrandolfo
Pierpaolo Pontrandolfo holds a laurea degree in Mechanical
Engineering and a PhD in Engineering of Advanced Manufacturing Systems.
After working for FIAT Auto as production engineer (1992-1993), he joined
Politecnico di Bari (www.poliba.it) where he is now Full Professor in Business
and Management Engineering. He is collaborator of the InterNeg Research
Centre (http://interneg.concordia.ca), John Molson School of Business, Concordia
University, Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
In 1995 and 1997 he has been visiting scholar at the University of South
Florida (www.usf.edu), Tampa, Florida. From 2002 to 2009 he has served as
coordinator in Puglia of the Italian Maintenance Association (AIMAN - www.aiman.com).
From 2006 to 2009 he has been Head of the Department of Environmental Engineering
and Sustainable Development (Taranto) as well as member of the Academic
Senate of Politecnico di Bari.
He is member of: Italian Association of Management Engineering (AiIG - www.ingegneriagestionale.it),
European Operations Management Association (EurOMA - www.euroma-online.org),
Production and Operations Management Society (POMS - www.poms.org).
Research – Publications
He has been serving as referee and/or has published for the following journals:
Computers & Industrial Engineering, International Journal of Automotive
Technology and Management, International Journal of Logistics: Research
& Applications, International Journal of Production Economics, Journal
of Modelling in Management, Journal of Systems Science and Systems Engineering,
Journal of the Chinese Institute of Industrial Engineer.
Since 2007 he is in the scientific editorial committee of Logistica Management
(www.logisticamanagement.it), the journal of the Italian association of
logistics and supply chain management (AILOG).
He is (co)author of more than 100 papers, most of which published on international
books or journals. His h-index is 10 and one of his papers is the third
most cited papers in the last five years published by International Journal
of Production Economics (update January 2010). His research mainly concerns
operations and supply chain management (lately with emphasis on supply contracts),
corporate social responsibility (with regard to the logistics area), green
product development.
Research – Projects
He is or has been responsible as principal investigator for several research
projects granted by both public institutions and companies. Below, a selection
of such projects:
• Implementation of ERP systems: organizational implications, process re-design,
supplier integration. The case of Taranto plant of the Italian Navy, funded
by the Italian Navy, 2003 (13 k€).
• Sustainable Commodity Chains, (partnership with: CUSAT – Cochin University
of Science and Technology, Kerala, India; IMI – International Management
Institure, Delhi, India; IUBAT — International University of Business Agriculture
and Technology, Dhaka, Bangladesh; IVO – Development Research Institute,
Tilburg University, Tilburg, The Netherlands), funded by the Europen Union
within the Asia-Link programme, 2004-2007 (60 k€).
• Development of an innovative model for self-evaluation of the degree of
corporate social responsibility, funded by Puglia Region, 2007 (144 k€).
• ICT supporting logistic services: a model of organized market, funded
by Puglia Region., 2010 (720 k€).
Special teaching activities
• 2002-2004. Scientific Responsible and member of the steering committee
of the program “PROMINENT - Proposal Making & Project Management”. The
program is implemented by Politecnico di Bari jointly with Consorzio Consulting,
is funded by the Italian Department of Education, University and Research,
and is aimed at developing capabilities to prepare and manage research projects
related to environmental issues and funded at the national and european
level.
• 2002-2005. Member of the steering committee of the program “MANTRA – Master
in planning and control of transportation systems”. The program is implemented
by Politecnico di Bari, jointly with ISFORT - Istituto Superiore di Formazione
e Ricerca per i Trasporti - S.p.A. (Roma) and MST- Management e Sviluppo
Territoriale Soc.Coop. a r.l. (Taranto). The program is funded by the Italian
Department of Education, University and Research.
